[Colins]
A sheriff under Pat Garrett's direct supervision. He considers Nina Paganini as his own niece. He appreciates her musical talent, but he grew very disappointed when she turned bad in Detroit after running away from home. He scolds her whenever he sees her.
Minstrel Recruitment Quest
Location: Dallas Lawless District

1.Who Came?

Hm, who're you?
[Pat Garrett]'s got me busy looking into the outlaws here.
If it ain't an emergency, it can wait.
Huh? Some woman named [Nina] came back?
Haha, this is what you rushed on over to tell me? This place is big enough, it's no big deal if someone comes or goes.
~
...Wait, wait!
What did you just say?
Who came back?

(HINT: XXXX Paganini)
Mission: Answer [Who Came?] Question => Nina
What?
You're telling me that [Nina],
[Nina Paganini]'s back in town?
That thoughtless brat!
What the hell's she thinking, telling me she's back when she ran away in the first place to hang around with gangsters in Detroit!
How dare she announce herself so proudly, when she's lucky I haven't had her thrown in jail?
She hasn't got the faintest idea what happened here after she ran away, does she?
She took off without letting a soul know where she went. Near killed her parents with worry.
And in the end, since no one knew where she'd run off to, of course she didn't hear 'bout their deaths.
Reward:
  • Experience: 62,500
  • Gold: 72,500
No matter how many we catch, ain't no way we can get all these criminals.
We need a skilled hand to help out!

2.Ungrateful Child

Damn, I feel chilled to the bone!
That ungrateful child!
So, she didn't give a care about her parents, who were so mistreated by the townfolk? Where was she that day they got killed by a robber?
The Paganinis were damned fine musicians.
But they were accused of the devil's work because of their incredible skills and enchanting melodies.
I can't count the times I saved the Pagininis from the bullying of the locals.
In the end, they died a lonely death, only cold treatment and indifference around them.
[Nina] was a thoughtless child who ran from home without a thought for her parents' situation. All she thought about was how her parents 'didn't understand her.'
~
Well, I don't have the time to explain the situation myself, nor do I have the care to see her.
Tell her to read this case file. That should answer her questions.

3.More Urgent Matter

Oh, great. You're back.
So, what did [Nina] say?
Hm, she did? Maybe I was too hard on her earlier...
Don't know why she ran off to be an outlaw. Growing up she had perfect pitch and some musical talent.

Oh, I reckon I should introduce myself, seeing as you won't leave me alone.
Name's [Colins]. I answer straight to [Pat Garrett].
Right now I'm working on taking down [Machine Gun Brooks], who's got control over Dallas' mines.
Huh? [Nina] wants to know who murdered her parents?
Haha, you don't know what I'd give for that information, myself. I'd throw him in jail faster than you could say "shootout."
I'm sure you noticed, though, that the security here in Dallas ain't in the best of shape.
Don't matter if I put a couple robbers in jail or not, and there's not a lick of evidence.
Then there's the fact that the Pagininis were so hated by the folk here that I could hardly find a single witness.
Been focusing my efforts on tracking down [Ben], right hand man to Brooks.
He's evil as they come, and acts as a sort of boss for the other robbers here.
I catch him, and I guarantee you I'll be able to find the robber who killed [Nina]'s parents.
~
Looks like you can handle yourself in a fight.
Dallas is literally at war against the outlaws. Don't you think you should be helping us rather than [Nina]?
Why don't you take down the [Wanted Men] strutting around here to give us a little taste of your skills?

(Caution: If you do not complete and turn in the quest within the time limit, you will have to start it over.)
Mission: Kill [Wanted Man] x5
Good job.
You got some skill.
I could use someone like you around town.
Reward:
  • Experience: 725,000
  • Gold: 650,000
Heartless brat!
How dare she return now,
ignoring her parents when they needed her!

4.Trustworthy Informant I

Anyway, like I said before...
Problems here in Dallas won't go away just 'cause we threw some hoodlums in jail.
What we need is some information and evidence. And it can't just be a one time deal, we need to get the latest news all the time.
However, it ain't easy getting information from the inside.

He ain't exactly a friend, but there's one guy who stands on the middle ground between the law and the lawbreakers. He gets information on either side and shares it.
I think you're the person for the job I've got in mind.
~
There's a bartender named [Susan] in the [Bloody Dust Bar].
Can you get the [Backstreet News] from her?
She won't give you anything for free, so be prepared to do some work.
Mission: Backstreet News x1
Oh, you got it. Good work.
Her requests've always been ridiculous, so our sheriffs weren't able to get anything good.
This should help us out quite a bit.
Thanks a lot.
Reward:
  • Experience: 425,000
  • Gold: 675,000
No matter how many we catch, ain't no way we can get all these criminals.
We need a skilled hand to help out!

5.Latest News

Hm...
I can never make sense of the criminals' stories.
Guess common sense ain't enough to understand what goes on in their deranged minds...
Hm, but here's the story I was looking for.
~
Here, read this [Gunman's Note].
Mission: Read [Gunman's Note]
Gunman's Note...(skip)...
I heard some interesting news recently.
One of Brooks' followers, that skilled gunman Ben, disappeared.
Because Brooks didn't pay him right, he claimed he'd find his boss' stash of cash and vanished.

Based on Ben's skill alone, it's hard to think that Brooks would have sent lackies after him.
But what makes Ben think he can find Brooks' treasure?
Did he find some clue that gave him the location only Brooks would know?

The matter everyone's wondering about now is where and how much money Brooks is hiding.
Rumor has it he'd be set for life if he ever found it.
I wonder if there's some way for us to get our hands on it?
...(skip)...
Hm, it' s true no one knows his whereabouts,
but I never knew there was a story behind it.
Reward:
No matter how many we catch, ain't no way we can get all these criminals.
We need a skilled hand to help out!

6.Sheriff's Job

In fact, I had sent one of my men, [Terrence], off to chase [Ben] before you came along.
I should pass this along to him. Should help him in his chase.
~
We sheriffs will take it from here.
Tell [Nina] not to do anything stupid. She needs to sit tight and think about the choices she made to get her here.
Let her know that I'll throw her in jail at the very hint of trouble.

7.News from the Mine

You're back.
I have a job that I want you to help me with.
Huh? What?
[Nina] said she would find [Ben] first?
Idiot!
She thinks I'll just go along with this?
I told her to sit down and think about what she's done.
...wait, wait, wait. What did you just say?
Her parents' murderer?
[Ben] was the one who killed the Paganinis?
You sure about that?
Huh, if you say she's got proof...
If that's the case, under the laws of the West, nothing I can do to stop [Nina]...
I don't care for the fact that she felt she had to keep evidence from me.
However, I don't see a point in racing with her.
All I care about at this point is getting rid of the outlaw.
To be honest, I've been worried because I hadn't heard back from [Terrence] in some time.
Latest news was that he was chasing the outlaws who hid among the miners in the coal mine.
That's the last thing I heard.
~
There must be some traces from when the sheriff was mixed in with the miners.
The miners work for Brooks and are violent as any outlaw. He must've been all over investigating them.
Get as much information as you can from the Miners in the [Coal Mine Base Camp].
Mission: Sheriff's Actions x50
Good work.
This should be enough to figure where he got off to.
Let me see...
Ha, here it is.
Hm, [Terrence].
After finding [Ben]'s location, they met face to face.
Why didn't he bring that dirty outlaw here? Why'd he just vanish?
Wait. Something's fishy.
What? He met [Ben] and went away with him?
Reward:
  • Experience: 650,000
  • Gold: 450,000
[Nina]'d better keep out of trouble.
That delinquent needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror.

8.Letter from Terrence

Oh, right...
[Terrence] sent me a short message just before you got back.
Said he has something to give me. Wants to keep it secret, told me to go to the [Filthy Parlor] in the Bloody Dust without telling anyone.
I was ready to walk right in without telling a soul. But now that I've got this information, I'm a bit suspicious.
I think it might be a trap somehow.
Of course, I should go there myself no matter what happens,
but if it is a trap, I'm not sure I could manage it myself.
~
I'll pay you later. Can you take this Badge and go to the [Filthy Parlor]?
You shouldn't have any trouble with whatever they throw at you.
Anyone suspicious comes at you, don't hold back!

(HINT: Use [Colins' Badge] in the [Filthy Parlor] of the [Bloody Dust Bar].)
So, one of [Ben]'s gunmen showed up and attacked you.
He waited 'til he saw the badge?
I had my doubts, but it really was a trap.
So, what's this?
Oh, a record of an investigation into [Ben].
Handwriting looks like [Terrence]'s...
But why did the robber take this?
And the contents are...
We should look into the location of Brooks' stash that [Ben] knows...?
Reward:
No matter how many we catch, ain't no way we can get all these criminals.
We need a skilled hand to help out!

9.Traitor?

Hm... this is getting serious.
[Terrence]'s always been a loose cannon,
but his talents with a gun and tenacity in hunting down criminals has always been top notch.
If he turned traitor, it'll be a blow to us lawmen.
And if he did...
Why?
What are he and [Ben] up to?
~
Give me some time to think. I need to sort this mess out.
Come back later.

10.Shame

Ah, you're back.
So, what's [Nina] been up to?
Any news?
Stopped hearing from [Terrence] again.
~
Huh? [Nina] asked you to deliver this Case Log to me?
That's a kindness.
I'll read it.
Mission: New Case Log x1
Huh? She killed [Ben]?
And found a map to Brooks' stash?
Did you do it? Hm, I thought so.
Let me borrow the map to draw [Terrence] out...
Huh? What's this?
What? [Terrence] was going to find the diamonds and share them with [Ben]?
Wa... wait!
I need some time to go through this.
...
Is that so...
[Terrence] hasn't been fit to be sheriff since the day of the murder.
I'm ashamed to have kept him on so long.
And the Paganinis were murdered because they knew [Machine Gun Brooks] true motives...
Dallas lost its innocence because of tricks and misunderstandings.
Reward:
  • Experience: 62,500
  • Gold: 72,500
[Terrence]...
Did you really betray us?
Did you really betray your badge?

11.I'm So Sorry

I should be the one to apologize to [Nina], on behalf of the lawmen of this town.
[Terrence] was my man.
As a sheriff, I failed to protect the citizens, and the Pagininis...
Things right now are worse than ever.
After [Machine Gun Brooks] took over the area, everyone got enchanted by him somehow.
You seen the miners and mining robots in the mines?
They were enchanted by Brooks, and just work mindlessly day in and day out.
They're the ones who ignored the Paganinis and followed Brooks blindly. Now look at them...
But we sheriffs are powerless to do anything about it...
~
I haven't got the power to stop [Nina], no matter what she does.
As a sheriff, there's nothing I can do under the current situation.
I'll entrust you and [Nina] with [Terrence] and the other outlaws, including [Machine Gun Brooks].
I wish you luck...
