La Mancha's Knight

Who goes there?
'Tis I, the Knight of La Mancha, Don Quixote!
I travel the kingdom righting wrongs and bringing justice to those in need!
Chivalry is all we need to light our way in these maddening times!
[Don Quixote]
An aristocrat from La Mancha in Spain. After years of indulging in knightly romances, he grew confused about the real world and his books and claimed himself a knight. He now travels the world in pursuit of the ideal of chivalry and the love of the mysterious Dulcinea del Toboso.
La Mancha's Knight Quest
Location: Langlois Bridge
1.Chivalrous Spirit
Sancho, where have you gone?
How odd. Where did that scamp get off to?
Rocinante, do you know? To whence has Sancho wandered?
Oh, who might this be?
You're looking for me, are you?
'Tis obvious. You are here to seek the help of Don Quixote, the Knight of La Mancha! Might you be a peasant suffering under the cruelty of a tyrannical lord?
Sancho sent you? Just as well.
I was locked in deadly combat with these vicious Straws and Sunflowers when I realized Sancho was gone!
My foolish squire's absence had me worried sick.
At least he's safe.
So, what message has Sancho asked you to deliver?
No, no...
I can't do that!
This place needs our help!
Why would he ever want to leave?
The countryside is in chaos.
Monsters rise from their paintings and haunt the townfolk.
'Twould not do to leave them in such a state!
~
There's no chivalry here.
Genuine chivalry is our last hope in saving this world.
That is why I, Don Quixote, cannot abandon this place.
Let me ask you again.
What did I say will save the world?
Mission: Answer [Chivalrous Spirit] Question => Chivalry
You speak true!
Only chivalry can rectify all the wrongdoings of this world.
Reward:
- Experience: 500,000
- Gold: 500,000

2.This Is My World
Too much of my life has been spent secluded in my castle, away from the quests and adventures of the outside world.
My only pleasure was reading tales of knights more chivalrous than I...
How long did I spend reading those books...?
At any rate, it came to me: I am destined for greater things!
So I gathered up my noble steed Rocinante, my loyal squire Sancho Panza, and set out on my new quest as a knight errant.
However, I must admit... my travels 'til now have been more ignoble than I'd care for. I'd had not one real adventure!
But this place is different. This town, it must be under some manner of a spell.
I shall slay the evil magician who has enchanted this town, and save the innocent villagers!
Of course, many deadly trials await, but they'll be no match for my righteous chivalry.
The name of Don Quixote, the Knight of La Mancha, will go ring through the halls of history.
And, of course... I will win the heart of my love, Dulcinea.
Oh, Dulcinea! Is there any fairer princess in the land?
Every knight has a beautiful maiden to whom he has sworn his eternal love, and Dulcinea is my fair maiden.
~
Do you wish to become a knight, too?
Let us slay the [Deserted Straws] and [Confused Sunflowers] together.
These dastardly objects have been enchanted by an evil wizard. Drop your guard, and you'll be dead in an instant.
Come, come. Follow my lead and no harm will come to you.
Away, Rocinante! We ride!
Done already?
You're quite good.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to join you this time.
Rocinante must have been hungry.
There I was, charging into battle, when she stopped dead in her tracks to graze. How is a knight to fight without his trustworthy steed?
'Tis shameful, I know.
Next time, I'll show you the might of the Knight of La Mancha, I swear it.

3.I'm Calling Him.
You mentioned that you met Sancho earlier. How is he?
It saddens me to think that he won't join me in my adventures anymore. He's been by my side since I left the castle, you know.
Though he is but a lowly squire, he's as strong a believer in chivalry as any man.
I asked a mailman named Joseph Roulin to deliver a letter to Sancho for me.
That Sancho isn't here yet... the letter must have been lost.
~
Perhaps you could hand this [Summons Letter] to Sancho?
Once he's read it, he'll come at once, I'm sure.

4.The Windmill Lord
Hail, fellow knight!
Why haven't you brought Sancho with you?
I've learned of a marvelous quest while you were away. Marvelous!
There's a Crazy Lord in this peaceful town who's been causing trouble.
If I drive him away, they'll tell of Don Quixote's heroics for miles around!
Sancho's always telling me that he wants to have an adventure worthy of great recognition. Pity he's not here for this one.
Well, you can join this adventure in his stead.
There's a magic bridge nearby called the Secluded Bascule Bridge.
When I crossed the bridge, I faced a giant windmill that's come to life.
Others might see it as an ordinary eye, but a righteous knight like myself can see right through its disguise to see the monster within.
~
I am about to leave to face the crazed lord in combat.
Follow me, and we shall share in this glory.
Onward, Rocinante!
To the [Secluded Bascule Bridge] to defeat the [Agonized Windmill], the transformed, crazed lord!
(You'll need the [Secluded Bascule Bridge Key] to enter the Secluded Bascule Bridge.)
Done already?
You beat me to it again.
That's too bad.
I was right behind you, but my loyal steed Rocinante was up to trouble again.
She was running admirably, until we came upon a handsome foal on the road.
It seems she's just another mare, after all.
Ah, that accursed foal. Thanks to Rocinante's coquettish flirtations, the foal's owner started yelling at me.
Unlucky day!
Not only did I miss my chance to face an evil lord, but I was subjected to such uncouth language!

5.Unexpected Treasure Hunt
These things don't happen when Sancho is by my side.
He grew up as a peasant, so he always knew how to keep Rocinante in line. He could quiet her down with a look.
But with Sancho gone, I can't control this unruly horse.
What could he be taking him so long?
Is he so afraid of the monsters here?
It's just a painting. How frightening could it be?
There's more to it than that. Sancho enjoys a good adventure just as much as I do.
It takes more than some animated globs of paint to scare him.
Perhaps he feels I owe him some back pay?
I promised to pay him two silver coins every month, but I don't recall ever paying him.
I even borrowed money from him...
Perhaps that why he's upset.
Well, I remember now, and Don Quixote keeps his word.
Ah, if only I actually had some silver coins. But I do have this Treasure Map!
A salt merchant sold it to me. He said that this map leads to a fantastical treasure.
He sold me the map for a mere two silver, on account of my being a genuine knight and everything. He wouldn't have sold it to just anybody.
~
Might you be willing to find the treasure for me?
Return with it, and I'll repay both you and Sancho for your efforts.
Ho there!
Is that a bag full of treasure I see?
The map led to overwhelming riches, did it?
Eh, what was that? Just salt?
...How can this be?
Of course!
That vicious magician beat me to it!
He must have seen me with the treasure map, so he went there first and stole the treasure.
That dastardly magician! I'll get my treasure back from him, I swear it!

6.Payment
Ah, what to do, what to do?
I can't keep Sancho waiting for his back pay.
Of course! I did receive a gift from a woman whose kitten I rescued from a villainous tree.
Take a look at this. Have you ever seen such a big pumpkin?
Perhaps it will please Sancho.
~
It may not be worth a month's work, but it will cover a few days.
Would you deliver this pumpkin to Sancho?
Do be careful! It'll smash to pieces if you drop it.
Take care when you hand this to him.

7.My Love Dulcinea
Alone again?
What? Sancho sold the pumpkin?
I see. So back pay was the problem, after all.
Hm...
~
Oh? What's this?
Dulcinea's handkerchief!?
Give it to me. Quickly!
*Sniff, sniff.*
Oh, it smells so nice... This is surely Dulcinea's!
Its scent is as sweet as her beauty.
Such a gentle fragrance...
I'll cherish this handkerchief forever.
Thank you for this.

8.Knight's Fame
However, I'm afraid I cannot go to see her now, even if she is waiting for me nearby.
Of course I want to see my sweet Dulcinea, but I haven't earned the fame to be worthy of her love...
No, it's not yet time.
The best way for a knight to raise fame is to go into [Competition] and win battles, of course.
That's right! I should seek out a competition right now!
I can hear Dulcinea now, cheering me on as a bravely joust against other knights!
Ah, but how can I compete like this?
My armor is worn out from so many adventures...
She can't see me this way.
~
Perhaps you could help me?
I don't suppose you could craft a fine suit of armor for me...
I must have the finest [Shimmering Armor] so Dulcinea recognizes me right away.
(You can craft [Shimmering Armor] through [Quest Crafting].)
My, this is a spectacular suit of armor!
Dulcinea will see me coming miles away if I wear this.
Reward:
- Experience: 1,500,000
- Gold: 3,000,000

9.To Increase Fame
Well then, let's join a friendly competition, shall we?
There's no better way to raise your fame as a knight than to be seen fighting in the arena.
Traditionally, great knights confess their love to their ladies as they enter competition, but I will wait until I've won to do so.
Be patient, my lovely Dulcinea!
~
Why don't you join me?
I'd be honored to enter the arena with you.
Perhaps we should make a friendly wager? Say, first to win twice...
Best of luck to you, my friend.
Away, Rocinante!
Mission: Win Competition x2
Well, how did you do?
Two wins? Astounding!
Loathe though I am to admit it...
I was unable to defeat even one opponent.
Oh, how my body aches!

10.Panacea
Sancho carries a Panacea of incredible healing properties for times like this...
It heals any wound in an instant.
~
Might you retrieve the [Panacea] from Sancho for me?
It's a rare and precious medicine, but Sancho is my faithful squire. He will give it to you without hesitation if you tell him I am ill.
Oh, that's it, that's it. Thank you!
Ah, what a relief! I was in such agony...
I'll take this right away.

- Experience: 700,000

11.Ferocious Dragons
Oh! This is panacea!
I feel so... revitalized!
Now I've got the energy to finish my quest.
What quest, you ask?
Well, I've heard of ferocious dragons that live far away, around a volcano.
Terrible, fire-breathing dragons that are terrorizing the local peasantry.
~
Why don't you come with me?
Let's rid the kingdom of those terrible dragons!
(Go to [Lost Volcano Valley] and kill [Blazing Lizards].)
H-hail...
There were dragons at there. Right? Right?
It's not all in my head!

12.Shattered
Sorry, fellow knight. I just... I...
I have a niece named Antonia.
The poor girl grew up without a mother, and it gave her something of a hard edge. But she's a beautiful young lady, nonetheless.
Dear Antonia was opposed to my leaving the house--no, the castle--to pursue chivalry. She seems to think chivalry is too old fashioned.
More to the point, she sent me a letter.
I don't know what to think...
~
Would you read Antonia's Letter?
You've proven a steadfast friend. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.
Mission: Read [
Antonia's Letter]
Antonia's LetterDear Uncle Alonso,
Perhaps this is hard to read, but I will not do you the disservice of hiding the truth from you.
You are out of your mind.
You've spent too much reading your frivilous books, and now you can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy.
So where is this vicious dragon or this ferocious giant you're always speaking of?
Even this so-called Dulcinea is a figment of your imagination.
There are no such monsters, and no such woman, in this world.
Please, get a hold of your senses.
It pains me to write this, but it's all for my uncle's sake.
Uncle needs to be committed to an asylum so he can receive professional treatment.
I've reserved a spot at a hospital for him, where he'll be taken care of.
These ideas of chivalry have concerned me from the start.
Can it be true...?
What better place is there to practice chivalry than here?
13.Hospitalized
My adventures were all a delusion.
Even my beautiful princess. Dulcinea...
Well then, what's the point!?
All I've done is made a fool of myself.
Should I have stayed home?
Perhaps I'd be better off in my study, reading knightly romances and leaving the adventures to real heroes.
~
Would you go see [Antonia] on my behalf?
Find out if I am truly insane.
Perhaps I should turn myself in to an asylum...
And end my adventures...
So, what did Antonia have to say?
Another letter, I see.

14.Courage
Oh, hey. Take a look at this!
It says this is all just a misunderstanding!
She's... she's actually proud of me! Proud of her old uncle, chasing after chivalry in a world gone mad!
That's great! Hahaha! I'm not mad!
All right! For her sake, I'll become the greatest knight in the land!
Thank you for your aid, my fellow knight. Now, I've one more quest for you...
Soon, it will be time to face my greatest foe yet. A monster so frightful it gave even the great Don Quixote pause.
But I cannot go on ignoring this evil beast!
Gather up your courage, for today, we ride!
~
'Tis a great, four-armed giant that haunts [Windless Valley].
I swear I will go with you this time. I might get lost, so please prepare a whistle and blow it when you get there, so I can find you.
(You can craft [Quixote's Whistle ] through [Quest Crafting].)
(Use the whistle before the battle with the [Quixotic Windmill] begins. Don Quixote does not have to survive the battle.)
Oh, my head...
The battle's already ended? And the foul beast...?

15.Reigning Hero
Did I fall before the final blow was struck?
Regrettably, 'twould not be the first time...
I apologize. I had no intention of making you face the beast alone.
~
Please tell me true.
Who defeated the giant?
You? Or me, Don Quixote?
(Take pity on Don Quixote and tell him a little white lie.)
Mission: Answer [Reigning Hero] Question => Don Quixote
Ah, so it was my arm that felled the beast.
I... I did it!
I faced a monstrous foe, and won!
And, and I didn't even pass out!
Ha ha ha! I am a knight, after all!

- Experience: 500,000
- Gold: 500,000

16.Reward for Hardships
Well, now that the four-armed giant has been slain, perhaps it's time I retired from this adventure.
My dear niece did make me realize that my adventure may have caused some undue harm. And I've had to rely on you more than I care to admit.
My only wish was to set out on a grand adventure once in my lifetime. And since I've fulfilled my wish, I must go home.
Oh, that's right! I must pay Sancho his back pay before I leave.
Well, I do actually have a fair bit of gold.
It should be more than enough to repay him, but I fear Sancho may leave my service once I repay him...
That's why I hesitated to pay him earlier.
I was a fool.
My loyal squire would never abandon me.
Perhaps it is Sancho who should be a knight, and not I...
Anyway, I must send Sancho back to his family.
~
Please give him this [Gold Coin Bag].
And please tell him that he can go back to his dearly-missed family.
Please pass my apology on to him. I never did manage to become a royal knight, and have no land to give him.
Hail, sir knight!

I shall miss my loyal squire...
Hm? What's that in your hand?
~

18.Cloud Nine
Ah, what do I do?
I'm more nervous than when we faced the giant.
~
Ahh, my hands won't stop shaking!
I-I can't read the letter like this...
Please read it for me.
Mission: Read [
Sensual Love Letter]
Sensual Love LetterMy Dearest Don Quixote,
I can't stop thinking of your dashing figure at the competition.
Since that day, no matter if I'm walking under the luminous full moon or the glittering north star, all I think of is you.
You have captured my heart, dear knight.
Don Quixote, you are already a knight of great renown. But what satisfaction does fame bring without love?
There are many who still need your help in this world.
Please, continue your adventures. Continue to be the noble knight I know you are in my heart.
I will count the days until you return as an honorable knight.
Then, both my body and mind will be yours.
Oh, my cheeks burn at the desires I could never put to paper...
I send you my love and passionate kisses in this letter. -Dulcinea.
What? S-sealed with a kiss?
Her soul... and her body belong to me?
I-I didn't know Dulcinea was like this...!
Haha, how embarrassing!
But how glorious is today? Hurrah!

19.To New Adventure
All right, I can't keep Dulcinea waiting.
There are people out there who still need the help of Don Quixote, the Knight of La Mancha!
I'll show this crazed world the true meaning of chivalry!
Oh, I'll need to fetch Sancho.
I don't suppose he's already headed home?
No, I know Sancho too well. He's surely packed and ready for our next adventure.
He is my faithful squire, after all.
~
Might I enlist your aid in our preparations?
I can't let Sancho do all the work, you know.
Please gather some Healing Potions [V] for our journey.
You will be rewarded, of course!
I thank you.
You have earned Quixote's Favor for your brave deeds this day.
I will welcome any warrior as brave as I as a fellow Knight Errant.
Well, it's time I headed on my way.
I am the Knight of La Mancha, Don Quixote!
Away, Rocinante!
Be patient, my Dulcinea! Your royal knight is coming!
